For the first quarter of 2013, LYP has again chosen the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank as our Community Service partner. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank distributes more than 15 million pounds food and grocery products every year to more than 500 soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries in 27 Central Pennsylvania counties. These agencies directly feed thousands of hungry families throughout Central Pennsylvania – including Lancaster. We’d like to do our part and have a food drive through one of their “slow times of year”.
For the next three months at our monthly mixers, we’ll be collecting non-perishable items to donate at the end of March. Some examples that are most valuable to the food bank include: canned tuna, canned meats and stews, soup, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and rice, canned and dried beans, pure fruit and vegetable juices, and baby food, cereal and formula (must be within code date).
Our goal is to collect 100 pounds of food by the end of March – but we need your help! So next time you’re at the store, pick up a few extra items and bring them along to the next mixer. Together we can help feed the hungry in Lancaster County!
