Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
with American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is not a government agency. The vital Susquehanna Valley chapter programs are made possible by voluntary services and financial support from caring people in the community. Become a part of this great organization today by making a donation, volunteering, or giving blood. Together, we can save a life. You can make a difference!
The following opportunities are available for immediate participation. If you have the time, talent, and availability to assist, please consider helping!
Preparedness
The Red Cross helps people become prepared for the unexpected. Help with the maintenance and delivery of CPR and First Aid class equipment, the teaching of community classes, and the specific office-related tasks associated with our education programs. You can assist with cleaning and packaging CPR, AED, First Aid, Babysitter’s Training and Water Safety class materials, and you can use Red Cross vehicles to bring this equipment to the multiple class locations. After receiving training, you can teach health and safety classes to different community groups or individuals and become a reliable resource to the Red Cross. Instructor opportunities are available for daytime, evening, and even weekend help.
Public Support and Business Offices
As hurricane season approaches we realize that it would be a great help to have a trained corps of volunteers for vital public support and fundraising duties as well as core business office functions. If you have good customer service skills and are comfortable on the computer, we would love to have you join our team. Opportunities exist for both “front-line” and “behind the scenes” volunteers. Volunteers will be asked to make a regular time commitment, and the possibilities of leadership potential are endless!
Community Services
Do you like being a leader, a coordinator, or just having an extremely active role in your community? If so, then consider becoming a Blood Services Coordinator or a Recruitment Team Member and a part of this life-saving program. Recruitment Team volunteers work with their group to encourage people to donate blood. Blood Services Coordinators work with staff to supervise blood drives, recruit and train volunteers and potential sites, and market the overall blood services program.
Youth Educational Programs
Help educate local youth about health and safety programs. Teach them about being home alone, basic first aid, and water safety. Also play safe, be safe, the important tips about fire safety. Programs materials and curriculum are available for schools and youth-serving organizations. Become a volunteer with youth programs and help prepare and prevent disaster and accidents from happening to the generations to come!
Animal Assisted Therapy
Do you have a pet that just loves attention? Become part of the American Red Cross Animal Assisted Therapy. Work with seniors and youth providing that little extra love their lives may be lacking. Work as a team with your pet visiting different authorized sites bringing joy and brightening the lives of others through sharing your best friends.
