Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County
The Mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to serve Lancaster County children by offering opportunities for professionally supported One-to-One mentoring relationships with qualified volunteers. Each relationship will assist the Little Brother or Sister to become a confident, competent and caring individual. The following opportunities are available for immediate participation.
Big Bothers, Big Sisters and/or Big Couples
Responsible for serving as a volunteer mentor to a Lancaster County youth ages 6-14 for the purposes of being an adult friend and role model. Relationships are professionally supported and supervised by BBBS caseworkers. Commitment is for a minimum of one year, 4-6 hours (preferably two or more visits, for continuity and relationship-building) per month.
Recruitment Committee Members, Hispanic Mentoring Initiative
Serve as committee member, assisting the agency in developing community network to increase the number of Hispanic & Latino volunteers recruited to be mentors. Also assist with minority recruitment in general, and recruitment of males (agency always experiences a severe shortage of male volunteers, compared to the number of Little Brothers seeking a mentor).
Corporate Recruitment
Volunteers to serve as internal contacts at their own places of employment to recruit Big Brothers and Sister volunteers by utilizing newsletters, presentations, payroll stuffers or other means of recruiting in corporate settings.
Volunteer Council Committee Members
Committee members coordinate and plan all logistics for monthly activities for agency youth and volunteers, as well as Waiting Little Brothers and Sisters. Events include such things as miniature golfing, swim parties, picnics, camping and other activities designed to provide low or no-cost activities for ‘matches “ to do together and opportunities for volunteer Big brothers and Sisters to meet and network with other volunteers. These events also keep Waiting Little Brothers and Sisters engaged with the agency while they await a volunteer mentor.
Bowl For Kid’s Sake Event Planning
One or two volunteers needed to assist agency Event Coordinator in soliciting door prizes and giveaways (gift certificates, donations of goods) to be used at Bowl For Kid’s Sake Community Days in March of each year. Volunteer position needed for winter/early spring, prior to Bowl for Kid’s Sake in March.
Bowl for Kid’s Sake Community Days Volunteers
