Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
with Special Olympics of Lancaster County
The Special Olympics Lancaster County provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. It gives them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Get involved and be a part of this special community. The following opportunities are available for immediate participation.
Competition Coordinator
Responsible for the planning organizing of all Area/County or City competitions and offer statewide opportunities for athletes in compliance with NBG Rules, SOI Rules and SOPA Polices. See Volunteer Requirements below for additional information.
Public Relations Assistant Coordinator
Provide the public with information on Special Olympics and intellectual disabilities in order to increase and maintain public awareness and support for local programs and projects. See Volunteer Requirements below for additional information.
Training Coordinator
Responsible for all sports training for coaches and athletes in the assigned Area/County or City in compliance with SOI Sports Rules and SOPA Policies. See Volunteer Requirements below for additional information.
Volunteer Assistant Coordinator
Responsible for all aspects of volunteer management, services and non-sport related training in the assigned area and/or county. See Volunteer Requirements below for additional information.
Fund Raising Committee Chair
Responsible to help contact local businesses from March through early August to solicit sponsorships and items for door prizes. Event is held on the first Friday after Labor Day.
Sports Coaches
Highly skilled or certified coaches are needed in 15 different sports ranging from aquatics (swimming) to skiing. Sports season will depend on the sport. See Volunteer Requirements below for additional information.
Assistant Sports Coaches
Assist sports coaches with paperwork, training, and other needs when they occur. Sports season will depend on the sport. See Volunteer Requirements below for additional information.
Volunteer Requirements
The Competition, Public Relations, Training, and Volunteer Coordinators are required to attend 10 monthly board meetings over the year. The Competition and Training Coordinators, Sports Coaches, and Assistant Sports Coaches will require Criminal Background Checks paid for by the Special Olympics of Lancaster County. The Special Olympics of Lancaster County will also require a volunteer enrollment form be filled out for the above Volunteer Opportunities.
